Hi Guys,
I started this league 7 years ago in the fall of 2015. At that time, we had a salary cap of $240M, and it has not changed in the seven years since. Player salaries have increased quite a bit over those years. The highest salary in 2015 was $31M and for 2023 it is $43.3M. I think it is time that we make up for this change and adjust our cap. I was thinking of somewhere around $260M or $270M for cap. Additionally, since the MLB minimum has increased, we should use that, rather than $.5 for minimum salaries.
The minimum MLB salaries for the next year are listed below: 2022: $700,000 2023: $720,000 2024: $740,000 2025: $760,000 2026: $780,000
We can still continue to use $.1 for someone promoted to MLB during the season who has no prior MLB service time.
Please share your thoughts below. I would like to hear if you are in favor of this proposal, and if so, what do you think the new cap number should be?

I agree and think the 270M is a good number with salaries increasing and since we are fairly new in the current CBA. And since we use actual salaries I would like to propose that the salary cap and the minimum salaries be reviewed and revised if necessary in order to align with each new CBA.

I would vote for a $270 cap number. Would the new cap/minimums go into effect this year or next?

I'm for gradual changes. $240 for this year (season 2023); $250 season 2024; $260 season 2025.

I’m fine with bumping it up but would strongly prefer it not happen till next year. I don’t like big changes in season.

I would like to have an increase for this coming season. We are only 4 days into our offseason, so it really should not be a big pivot. I would like to hear from a few more guys, but I would plan on some sort of an increase. We will see where the discussion takes us, and go from there.

It’s a lot of arbitrary endpoints, but I feel like the next season starts at the preceding trade deadline. Anything happening now is a couple months into the current season. This is especially problematic being that it’s proposed after deals have already been made for this year. Things that have this much of an impact need to have a year of runway for everyone to prepare accordingly.

I’m for starting it this season and I think is will only benefit the teams as free agent agreements come to fruition.

I think rolling it out on a whim like this expands the resources of the teams at the top unfairly. They’ve already maximized their value in the short term and this would be like giving them a bonus. If it’s gonna be this year, the dollar amount should at least be very small, with the rest being for next year.
Additionally, if this is in the spirit of increasing league parity, only rolling it out to last year’s non-playoff teams this year would help.
I’ve never seen a league roll out a cap increase in-year. I’ve talked to a lot of fantasy brethren about this and no one can believe this is even being considered. I assure you that if the teams at the top are given this extra budget in a free agency year like this year the league will become even more top heavy.

You keep saying "in year." We activated the league for activity on 11/21. We annually freeze rosters at the end of the regular season, and no moves can be made until we have 10 owners and everyone has adjusted their roster for the next year. That was 4 days ago. The trade deadline is not the beginning of a season in our league. It is when the green light is given after the World Series. There will not be different cap amounts per team. We all play by the same rules.
Just to be clear, there will be some adjustment to the cap for the 2023 season. I will wait until more members of the league have weighed in. If there are enough that don't want the big jump, we can vote on a big bump or a tiered bump. Let's see where this goes first.

I’m in favor of making the change now. $270M cap.
If I’m being completely honest I trust Brian to make decisions that keep this league viable. In the grand scheme of things this is a fake baseball league with fake baseball teams that I participate in because I enjoy the heck out it. I’m not too worried about it, I will play with whatever rules there are.

It's dynasty. The season never really starts and stops. It's just a pause on trading. Any and all moves made up until you make that suggestion (going back at least one calendar year, and you could make a good argument for more than that) are operating under the notion that the cap will be what it is for this entire season. If this is a redraft league and you make the change before the draft that's fine. But this is rash.

I would be in favor of increasing the salary cap but I would like to see it no more than $260 million for this year. Also I would preferred league minimums to either be .7 or 1.0. I understand the concern on changing the salary cap after the league has been unfrozen but I personally do not mind increasing the cap and would prefer to increase it. Either $250 or $260. I trust Brian to run a fair league.

I'm for gradual changes. $240 for this year (season 2023); $250 season 2024; $260 season 2025. I like this one, but if it has to increase in '23 then $250 is good.
