If he does in fact both pitch and hit, he will force a change in fantasy baseball. Typically, hitting stats don't count for pitchers. Wonder how ESPN, Yahoo, etc manage the situation.

I doubt these sites will change anything just because of 1 guy. I think teams will make him choose a position, and if he pitches,he may occasionally pinch hit, if plays the field, he my occasionally come in for a relief appearance. I doubt he does both full time and run a bigger risk of injury.

I've heard CBS will have an Otani pitcher and an Otani hitter. I've heard that another option would be you can only collect his stats in the roster position you have him in. Ex, you will collect his pitching stats if he's in your pitching slot, and he would have to be moved to a hitting slot to collect his hitting stats. That would be so valuable in a daily league

So if you are in a redraft one team could have him as a hitter and another team could have him as a pitcher?

I doubt that, Neil. I was thinking he will be like some utility guys like Brock Holt who can be plugged into multiple slots. Probably, he would be eligible at P and dh/of.

in my other league, i made a new rule to prevent problems in the future regarding this guy. i basically said we will defer to the site. if fantrax allows both, then the team getting him can use him as both. if it only says "p" then they wont get the hitting stats. we're just gonna go with how the site labels him and go with that.
its definitely an interesting situation though.

Yeah, we have no choice other than to go with whatever ESPN does.

Based on these bonus systems, he may sign a minor league deal. Would he even be a part of the bidding process if that happens or be the property of the owner with that farm system? Might be something to get worked out now versus later.

Good point. If he signs under International Bonus Pool, there is no bidding for him. Someone is going to get a good deal on him. Go Twins, Mets, or Brewers!
