curious about the players who still havent signed contracts. I believe a few of them were bid on in the player option. Are we handling that the same as last year? Can they be dropped without penalty? Also if I pick one up on waivers do I pay the auction price or the 2018 contract price?

I want to make a proposal and see what others think.
A) You can release a player like Craig Kimbrel of Dallas Keuchel w/o penalty.
B) If a player is released, they can be added by anyone at any time. You don't have to wait until they are signed, but they must be kept on your MLB roster here and ESPN and count against your cap.
C) A released player would be added at the winning bid price for this year then revert back to contract terms for the following year.
It is crazy that we have to come up with this policy, but here we are. I would like to hear thoughts on the above and then we can make it policy for future years.

Once the regular season starts, then yeah I would agree that a team can release a player without penalty as long as he's not signed by a MLB team. I would suggest if another team picks up the same player, then they are with the penalty if then they decide to release that player. Player salary should remain the same throughout the year, it's no different if a player won by bid is traded, the new team consumes that salary for the year.

Good catch, Neil. The penalty should apply as well. Agreed!

Good idea...agree with Neil. And agree with Brian that it's crazy that we have to account for this stuff.

I think Brians option with the caveat that while once a player is released by the the team that bid on him that team incurs the cap penalty for the the year. Then with the player being released he now is free game to be picked up at the original winning bid price. Furthermore, once a player is picked up by a second team then the first team would be now released from carrying their cap penalty.

My above scenario would also apply to Kimbrel/Keuchel situations as well.

Basically my view is Brian's post but with first team being released from cap penalty if player picked up by second team and situations like Kimbrel and Keuchel would be included.

My post says the first team can release at the beginning of the season without penalty, and I think that is the way it should be. No one bidding in February wojld know Keuchel and Kimbrel wouldn't be signed by opening day. That owner ahould not be penalized for that reason. If someone else chooses to roll the dice at that point, they know what they are getting into. Because of that, the penalty should apply.

I agree with Brian. I own both keuchel and Kimbrel, so still hoping they sign long term deals, much cheaper than I paid lol.

Is a deadline of 4/15 reasonable?
