This morning I was looking at the depth chart of San Francisco and my eye fell on Tommy La Stella. Now I'll tell you a nice (Italian) curiosity about this player. In the 60s / 70s the manga and anime "Kyojin no Hoshi" (which I love) came out. Do you know it? It tells the story of a child / boy who aspires to become a professional pitcher, great star of the Yomiuri Giants. Ichiro Suzuki used this manga reference to his grueling childhood baseball training. In English the title of the manga was translated into "Star of Giants", while the name of the protagonist was kept as in the original, namely Hyūma Hoshi. In Italy, however, the title was translated into "Tommy, la stella dei Giants" (la stella dei Giants = star of Giants). Unfortunately, the name of the protagonist was changed to Tommy Young (hence the name in the title). All that said, there is a player in MLB named Tommy La Stella who plays in the Giants, while in Italy we have a manga / anime (of Japanese origin) called "Tommy, la stella dei Giants". Nice coincidence.

To be honest, I can't say I've ever heard of that, but it is one hell of a story. What are the odds!?!?
