Who is your favorite player of all-time? Mine would be Gary Carter. I was 10 years old when MLB returned from the strike in 1981. The first game back was the all-star game, and Carter hit 2 bombs that night and won the MVP. I was hooked. I loved the way he played the game with such passion. It was a thrill to meet him several times, and it truly is a shame he was taken from us at such a young age.

My favorites always change with the times. I guess my attention span is too short. I get up loving Dale Murphy. I was a huge Andruw fan and the moved to Jason Heyward. Currently I absolutely love Acuña.

I know this post is looking for a favorite player however, I don’t just have one because In my 50+ years of following baseball I have many. Actually too many to list here. What I can share with you is the one favorite person in baseball that not only provided insight into every player’s story that came up to bat and pitch but also provided history and statistics along with thoughtful anecdotes is sportscaster Vin Scully. I still enjoy the drama of listening to the replay of him call a Sandy Koufax no hitter on youtube.

No single favorite player but I enjoy history and love the stories of yesteryear- Ruth , Gehrig , Maris , Jackie Robinson . In 1972 I wrote a report about Roberto Clemente…The Ken Burns baseball doc really rekindled the love of said history…

Don, whenever my team wasn't on, I would often flip to the Dodgers just to listen to the one man show. He was a treasure.
Gary Carter was my #1, but Vlad Guerrero Sr would be 1B for me. I also loved Tony Gwynn. I went to the game where Tony Gwynn got his 3000th hit in Montreal.

As a 20 year old I grew up a Twins fan watching my favorite players like Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer. As I continued to watch baseball through my childhood I began to love the bat on ball skills and the guys with great on base percentage. I love pure hitters (even though I have only watched past video) of Tony Gwynn and Ted Williams. Today I love the game of Luis Arraez.

Darren Daulton was a hero of mine when I was young! Then met him in my 20s. Hewas so cool and drank with me and my brothers all night at a bar in Clearwater, Florida. We were there for Phillies spring training.
Then I watched Bryce Harper hit the homerun in game 6 of the NLCS! Now there is a tie!

Brian, Gary Carter was great!! Cool Picture what a lifetime Treasure! All the players listed here have been or are still a joy to watch. Thanks everyone for sharing!! The great thing about baseball is the spectrum of stories of players from Babe Ruth to Fernando Valenzuela and to even players that I enjoyed watching and rooting for who had brief careers such as Steve Sax.
