Hi guys,
Something popped up last year that I thought we should address/tighten up. I had Spencer Torkelson, and I wanted to drop him because he wasn't getting the job done. My thought was that he just passed his rookie limits, and normally a claim would be made if that were the case. If you would prefer that a claim doesn't need to be made, now is the time to say so, and we can fix it if a majority prefers that. If it is tied, then we will stick with the claim needing to be made. Thanks, and you have until 11:30pm Friday 2/10 to respond.
Brian

The Torkelson claim situation was confusing as the current rules did not support a claim with dropping a player after limits have expired especially with no explanation in transactions of intent to keep player rights, I hope an add of a more detailed explanation to the rules to avoid any future confusion or a new process for situations like this will be considered.

This is what is stated in the 'Roster Management During the Season' thread:
4) If a player has achieved rookie limits of 130 AB or 50 IP, been claimed and added by a team, and then dropped, the player is eligible to be added by any team without the need to go through the one week claim process again.
Nothing that states if the owning team adds a player before their rookie limits expires and they releasing that player after limits are passed. Also if a claim is made, the player is added by the owning team then later dropped to waivers, does another claim need to be made?
My 2 cents: I vote no because my thinking is if a player is on a MLB roster during or after rookie limits are surpassed (without a claim being made) and then later dropped to waivers, I feel that since that player was already on a MLB roster during/after the time of the limits being surpassed that eliminates the need to post a claim. As always if a player is on the Milb roster when they go past limits, then a claim needs to be made.
If we're going to say that a claim still needs to be made because that player is considered a rookie because they are in their rookie season, then I agree with Don that the rules need to be cleaned up a bit to clarify the different scenarios.
With that being said, even though I voted no, I would be on board if we still need to make a claim. Things like this come up for a good reason and it's good to discuss and vote to make for less confusion in the future.

Pretty much regardless of who or where a player was before they reached their limits, if they were promoted to the MLB squad before that, then dropped, it should just go by waiver order or however any other free agent is picked up.

I have seen the light. We should change the rule to apply to ALL players, not just those added via a claim. Clarity and consistency is the best way to go. I will make it so that any player dropped after they have reached 130AB or 50IP in a season can be added immediately without a claim. Thanks for all of your input.
