Hi Guys,
We won’t start anything until after the World Series is over. If you have been paying attention, that could be tonight. We have to get some housekeeping taken care of before we open up for trading. I would like to wait until all are finished before we commence trading, too. Please don’t be the guy that holds everyone up.
Rosters/SalariesFirst, we need to update rosters, salaries and contract details. Please check ALL your players, as some may have had their contracts re-done. Please remember that we are using 2016 salaries for players, except for free agents won during the bidding process. Their salary for this coming season will be the winning bid.
1) To check salaries, go to:
www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/ .
2) Click on the team name that the player began the 2016 season with.
3) Next, click on the green link next to 2016 for the opening 25 man roster.
4) You should find salaries and/or details for each year of player control there.
5) Record that info for each player on your 40 man roster. (I like to keep mine in Excel and paste it into the league site, but your call.
ProspectsYou must have a MILB roster size of a minimum of 20 total. You can have as many as you would like, keeping in mind that each counts as $.1 towards your salary cap. No one who has exceeded 130AB/50IP can be kept on the MiLB roster. Either put them on your 40 man or drop them.
How MiLB players are controlled:1) When a MiLB player is drafted or signed as a free agent, they fall under control of whoever owns rights to that franchise.
2) If a player is on someone’s list and is traded, he still remains property of the owner who had them on the list.
3) If a player is not on someone’s list and is traded, he becomes property of the new franchise (EX: Dansby Swanson was traded after being drafted the previous year. If his owner was slow to put him on a list, he goes from AZ ownership to Atlanta).
4) If a player is called up to the majors and is not on someone’s protected list, he is immediately eligible to be added BY ANYONE.
5) If a player is called up to the majors and he is on someone’s protected list, he remains under control by that organization until he reaches the rookie limits of either 130AB or 50 IP.
6) Once a player on someone’s list reaches 130 AB or 50 IP, he is now eligible to be claimed by another team.
7) If another team places a claim, the original team can add their owned player at any time over the next 7 days. However, if the original team does not add the player, the team who made the claim can add the player once 7 full days have passed.
I hope this clarifies the process. The bottom line is if a player is an asset, it is best to protect them. We don’t control when players are traded or called up.Please, please, please, do your due diligence in updating your prospects list. My advice is to start with the master list from the 2016 season to see if someone is already owned. Just because a player is in one of your 3 organizations now, it does not mean that you control them now. Keep in mind, specs are traded all the time. Check and double check. I am sure disputes will arise. Please let me know asap if you feel someone has listed a player that is yours.
