When a batter or pitcher exceeds the benchmarks of 50 IP or 130 AB, when is the legal time to add him?
From what I have been noticing, most players are being added shortly after the game in which they exceed either benchmark ends, but there are others who were claimed during the game in which they exceed the benchmark. For example,
SS Tim Anderson exceeded his 130 AB's on the 16th of July...that game started at 8:05 PM CT His claim went up at 8:59 PM, less than an hour later. Clearly, the game was not over unless it was a rainout.
Now I will be the first one to admit, yes, I have missed out on a lot of these players because I am not as quick as some other team owners. But I just thought I would be ask this question:
If we are watching or monitoring the game, is it okay to add the player the second they hit 130AB or 50IP? Or, must we wait until the game is completed?
I know this is getting very technical, but it could mean the difference between someone losing or adding their superstar rookie. Whether they did not have roster space or whatever the case may be. I realize the owner probably deserves to lose the player at that point if they have yet to add him, but I think it would be a good idea to go over this just in case a situation arises in the future..multiple people may be monitoring the player, and it would basically be a race to see whose post would be submitted first. And we want to be on the same page as to when the green flag drops.
That's all I got, thanks!

You can't "add" a player until a week has passed. But, you can claim him once his magic # is reached. That is why you see some claims go in during a game. EX: Julio Urias had 48.1 IP, he came in to relieve in his next game. Once he got 1.2 more innings, he reached 50. Therefore I made the claim. I must now wait until one week has passed before I can add him on ESPN if his owner doesn't put him on his roster. The owner has 1 full week in which they can add him. If they do not, he is mine.

Yeah, I meant "claim." Sorry for that. I was just making sure that it was okay to add the player during the game. I guess if you really want to claim a player then you have to be watching the game with the claim ready to be posted. Not sure how I feel about that at all, as an inactive owner's roster can be taken advantage of. But those are the rules so I will go along with them.

The one conflict might be if a guy gets his 131 AB or 50.1IP In the 4th inning as a prospect in an inactive team, rain starts to fall and the game gets cancelled permanently before the 5 th inning.
Brian is a good Commish and will make a great ruling in such an event I am sure.
Good luck in all your leagues guys, except maybe the inactive ones.
And a great weekend.

Yeah, if there is a washout, the intent was to do the right thing. I would rule no harm in that case. The bottom line is, the more active you are, the better the chance to get your guy. Whether it is "in game'" at the 130th AB or at the end of the game, you need to be paying attention either way. Because of that, I believe the threshold of 50/130 being met is the most important criteria, and that is when you can claim them.
