Hi Guys, I just read the following article that came out today: MLB .236 batting average though May lowest since 1968 www.foxnews.com/sports/mlb-236-batting-average-though-may-lowest-1968Seems baseball has gone from ‘Juiced balls’ to now seeing low batting averages and many more ‘No-Hitters. My thoughts on what may be the cause is the changes made to the ball causing some kind of added movement coming out of the pitchers hand. Wondering what your perspective might be?

Pitchers and defenses continue to make adjustments, yet hitters keep the launch angle up swinging for the fences and hitting into shifts. There is the problem, IMO.

I like seeing the pendulum swinging to the pitchers side a bit. Nice to see pitchers have some advantages now rather than having 30 guys hitting 40 HRs a year. I heard talk about moving the mound back a foot, which I don't how that would work. These guys have been pitching from that distance their whole lives, now you want to move it back, I don't know if MLBPA would go for that. And they complain about the shift also, learn how to hit the other way rather than pulling the ball and force the defense to play standard defense positions.

Defenses are shifting and giving away singles to the other side but offenses are responding by still hitting into the shift because a chance at extra bases is more valuable. So shifts have been making the game harder for hitters. Pitchers are throwing harder and harder obviously. Pitchers have extreme movement on pitches because they are using foreign substances and MLB has not cracked down on it yet. Plus the balls are less juiced than they were last year. Umpires have also been giving strike calls on borderline pitches which we have always seen but an automatic strike zone would help batters. I saw a MLB Tonight demonstration on moving the mound back and they had researchers say that everything is about the same from a minor increase in difference. It will be very interesting to see how MLB handles the low offensive percentages.
